Kathryn Darlington Ruano asks Hi, I have a 6 year old soon to be 7 year old son with high functioning autism, we had his IEP meeting today and they say he is progressing very well, only concern is his behavior, he has full blown conversations with himself and they say it interferes with his progress as well as other kids, they suggested I take him to see the neurologist, I told them we were there just a few months ago, the lady he saw is a nurse practitioner that specializes in kids with autism, both her and I thought it would be best for him to go to a school that is geared more toward autism instead of the multiple disabled setting he is in now, school tells me that since he is verbal he doesnt meet the needs to be in an autistic program and he should see an actual neurologist instead of the nurse practitioner hes been seeing, I feel they dont want to pay to send him out of the district and I also believe his convos with himself is a form of stimming, any input??
