Katie Update: Our baby is recovering well from the removal of a lung lobe/tumor, had her 16 staples removed last Mon and the incision is healing well. Shes been going up & down the deck stairs on her own, tho sometimes she will play the pitiful pup, holding up her left front paw & waving it at me, wanting me to pick her up & carry her. Or to give her a treat! We had been told the mass on her lung was the only thing they saw on the CT, but after the surgery they said there is a small nest of cancer cells in her airway, and recommended chemo. Weve decided against chemo tho, as their best estimate is that it will give her 8 months, and because we just cant afford it. Its $260-$300 per treatment & they want to do 6-8 of them. Were not sure how were going to pay back the $3,500 weve charged, and we spent the $1,200 we were saving to move to a better place on the initial oncology consult and biopsy. Not that we regret any of that, we would do it again in a heartbeat, just that were completely tapped out at this point. It breaks our hearts that we cant do everything possible to help our baby. We are however going to try a holistic approach. We have an apt with a holistic vet this Mon, hopefully well be able to give her several good months. Ive already switched her to anti-cancer diet, cooking her sweet potatoes, squash, fresh spinach, whole grain brown rice, whole oats, coconut oil, local honey, and Essiac pills.
