Keep America Beautiful, one of the first greenwashing corporate fronts, was created in response to Vermonts 1953 attempt to legislate a mandatory deposit to be paid at point of purchase on disposable containers. The corporate funded PR campaign which aims at diverting responsibility from industrial polluter to individual consumer continues to affect the modern conception of environmental responsibility.
