Kev posted this Romanesco yesterday. Apart from being pretty expensive (well in France anyway) and looking like Grinch Mountain overlooking Whoville its a good alternative to brocoli or cauliflower. When I do a semi-detox I usually steam a trio of cauli, brocoli and romanesco that I serve with steamed cod and just a drizzle of olive or sesame oil. When Im decidedly not in detox mode I love this recipe given to me by an Italian friend : PENNE WITH BROCOLI Penne (preferably the Italian brand de Cecco) Plenty of boiling water (rule of thumb for 1litre of water, 100g pasta, 10g salt I head of brocoli or Romanesco broken into florets. Cook the penne according to instructions with the brocoli or romanesco florets. Adding a dash of oil to the water to prevent sticking is a myth cos the oil floats above the pasta émoticône wink Meanwhile in a small saucepan gently heat some olive oil (enough to liberally coat the pasta when its strained) with 4 or 5 whole cloves of peeled garlic, and 5 birds eye chllies. Strain the penne/brocoli when cooked return to pan and strain over chlli/ garlic oil, toss and serve (traditionally without Parmesan although can never resist a sprinkle. Et voilà!
