Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Memorial Lecture on “Re-Imagining Pakistan” at Jamia By TCN New Delhi: Centre for Pakistan Studies, Academy of International Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia is going to organize 2nd Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Memorial Lecture on “Re-Imagining Pakistan” which would be delivered by Ambassador Husain Haqqani, Director of South and Central Asia, Hudson Institute, Washington, D.C., USA. Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia will chair the session. Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, better known as Frontier Gandhi or Badshah Khan, was the founder of the non-violent Pashtun political movement, Khudai Khidmatgar in undivided India and a follower of Mahatma Gandhi. Ambassador Husain Haqqani served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States from 2008-2011 and is widely credited with managing a difficult partnership during a critical phase in the global war on terrorism. Ambassador’s Haqqani’s book “Pakistan between Mosques and Military published in 2005” has been praised in major international journal and newspapers as a path-breaking book on Pakistan’s political history. The book received favourable reviews in Foreign Affairs, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, and academic Journals and has sold more copies than any other academic book on Pakistan in the last decade. He is also the Director of Centre for International Relations, and a Professor of the Practice of International Journalism, Intercultural Relations, Muslim Political Movements, South Asia, Central Asia, South-East Asia, the Middle-East, and U.S.-Pakistan Relations. He is also the co-author of Hudson’s signature journal “Current Trends in Islamist Ideology”. The programme is scheduled to be held on August 11, 2014 at 3.30 PM at Edward Said Hall, Administrative Block, Jamia Millia Islamia.
