Kia ora mai ano tatou katoa, nga uri whakatupu o Ahikiwi Marae. Koia nei te pepeha i tuku iho no nga maatua tuupuna i anga mai te kawai a Panapa Hohapata. Ko Tuutaamoe te Maunga whakahii Te Kaihu te Awa e kutere ana ki te Wahapu of te Kaipara Ko Ahikiwi te Marae Ko Panapa te Tangata/Tupuna Ko Ngatihinga te Haapuu Ko NgatiWhatua te Iwi Ko Mahuhu ki te Rangi te Waka Kia ora to all of our relatives and kinfolk whose roots and geneological ties lead back to Ahikiwi Marae. I have posted our pepeha as a starting point of Identity. It is a passport of sorts that connects each of us to our eponymous ancestor, Panapa Hohapata and the subsequent forebears from whom we descend. There is a wealth of history attributed to the Marae, the Community, the Whenua and of course the people, our very own kinfolk. If you have never been there or know nothing about the place or the people, then this page is for you. The Marae has an enormous descendant base that would number into the thousands. Many of those foundation members have since passed. A large number have moved or relocated, many have not been given the appropriate information to find out who they are and where they come from and still others who are not as active or involved with the Marae as they used to be for a number of varying reasons and circumstances. There is a huge debt of gratitude to all those foundation members and families for the work that they have done to get us to the present point where we are now. Although they toiled away relentlessly, The hardest part of the journey still lies before us all, Keeping the Marae running! On that note I would like to hear what everyone else thinks. What would you like to see at the Marae? How can we attract whanau to come back and be a part of the Marae? Where does the whanau see the Marae in 5 years? What do we all think about succession planning? Do we need to have a hui about roles and responsibilities? Perhaps if people had queries or questions they could post them here and I will try to answer them. I just want to see things move a head and get more of our whanau involved on a variety of levels. Food for thought, he mihi kau ake tenei, arohanoa Andrew Tau (Chairperson)
