Kids Cant Fight Cancer Alone Research is a child’s best hope - TopicsExpress

Kids Cant Fight Cancer Alone Research is a child’s best hope for a cure. But less than 4% of federal research funding is directed to childhood cancer research. At the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, we do one thing and we do it well: we fund children’s cancer research. Our mission is to find cures for childhood cancers and to give survivors long and healthy lives. As the largest private (non-government) funder of pediatric cancer research grants, we support cooperative research to give kids nationwide access to the very latest in research and clinical trials. What began as a challenge between three friends in 2000 has grown into the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraiser for childhood cancer research. With head-shaving events in all 50 states and several countries, thousands of volunteers each year ask friends and family to make donations on their head. In return, they attend one of many volunteer-organized events around the world where they have their heads shaved in solidarity with kids fighting cancer. Others have found ways to support St. Baldrick’s through partnerships, advocacy, or participating in their own “Do What You Want” fundraiser. Since its inception, St. Baldrick’s has raised more than $220 million USD to fund the best and most promising research in pediatric oncology at over 300 institutions in 20 countries worldwide. St. Baldrick’s research grants have contributed to hundreds of new discovery and translational projects, funded the training of the next generation of aspiring doctors and helped institutions treat more children on clinical trials—their best chance for a cure. With each passing milestone, human lives—the lives of children with cancer—are being dramatically improved through the support of the St. Baldricks Foundation. The continued momentum of this effort relies on volunteers and has everything to do with one very small but powerful word. You.
