I called the police tonight from the Bed Bath and Beyond parking lot. When I went in the store I was parked next to a Mercedes that had a tiny little puppy locked inside it. He looked like a husky puppy, all white and fluffy and not more than 2 or 3 months old. He was whimpering quietly in the car. I was worried but figured maybe they only ran in for a second. I was in the store 15 minutes and when I came out the poor thing was still there but by now he was howling, crying, barking, scrambling trying to get his face out of the little crack in the windows that they left him. He kept jumping on the dash to stick his face out the window and I noticed he had a leash on! Poor little guy couldve fallen off the dash and tangled in the wheel and choked to death which in retrospect mightve been better than the slow, painful brain frying he was getting now. Several people were stopping by the car and writing the plate number down while I was on the phone to the police so Im sure Im not the only one who called. I was just finishing my report and was going to go in and ask for some water when the assholes came slowly moseying out of the store to their car. My interior was up to 98 degrees within the first five minutes! Can you imagine how hot that little baby was? The puppy literally fell into the ground when they opened the door and they had to pick him up. All in all he was in the car for 45 minutes that I knew of!! I told the police to add that to the report as well and asked if they were going to get away with it since they were leaving and he said not at all. They can be cited after the fact, especially if I would be willing to go ahead and file a report. Damn straight I would be! I guess while I was finishing up another officer was taking a call on the same puppy. If the system works that puppy will be in a better home soon! Please dont be afraid to call the police when you see an animal being mistreated! They cant speak so we gave to be their voice!
