A spokesman for the Taliban group, Zabiullah Mujahid said, “We reject claims that mujahideen were involved in the killing of the Indian woman. It is a propaganda by government officials to defame the mujahideen.” Sushmita Banerjee, the 49-year-old writer was shot dead by militants earlier this month after she was dragged out of her husband’s house in eastern Paktika province. The author became famous with her 1995 book, “A Kabuliwala’s Bengali Wife.” She was married to Afghan businessman, Jaanbaz Khan, wrote about her life in Afghanistan and how she had fled from the Taliban’s oppressive rule.
