Kimberly-Shirk Association’s soiree raises more than $50,000 to support Kimberly Crest House & Gardens in Redlands POSTED: 10/30/14 The Kimberly-Shirk Association’s annual soiree, an evening dinner party and auction, raised more than $50,000 to support the Kimberly Crest House & Gardens in Redlands. The event was held in the gardens of Kimberly Crest. “It was a beautiful evening,” said Larry Munz, president of the Kimberly-Shirk Association Board of Trustees. “The highlight for me was seeing the community come together to support this historic home. Without the support of our community there would be no Kimberly Crest.” The event’s proceeds are used to cover major improvements, the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the 6.25-acre estate that was a gift from Mary Kimberly Shirk to the people of Redlands. “This $50,000 represents an important part of our operating budget over the next year,” said Jessie Powell, co-chairman of the event and a Kimberly-Shirk Association trustee. Dozens of local businesses and individuals donated vacation and dinner packages, tickets to athletic events, fine art and more for the silent and live auctions. Neil Waner and Stan Weisser, both longtime civic leaders and volunteers, presided over the live auction. “This event wouldn’t have been possible without their support,” Powell said. Toni Momberger, Redlands Daily Facts editor, beat out Larry Munz and Janey Cole to win the Redlands History Jeopardy game that followed the live auction. The Kimberly-Shirk Association is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization created to protect and preserve Kimberly Crest House & Gardens, which is a registered California Historical Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The historic property and museum receives no city, state or federal tax money and is supported through donations and fundraising events. Located next to Prospect Park, the French chateau-style Victorian mansion and Italian Renaissance-style gardens are open for tours 1 to 4 p.m. most Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
