Kin Tree Dunfermline singer Barbara Dickson was born today in 1947. She has had a successful and varied career as a multi million selling recording artist and an Olivier Award winning actress. Her first hit single, ‘Answer Me’, was released early in 1976 and a guest residency on the BBC’s hugely successful ‘The Two Ronnies’ show later that year brought Barbara into the homes of more than 15 million viewers on Saturday evenings. This was only the start of her success. Along with hit singles and albums, she has won numerous awards as best actress in a musical including Olivier and Variety Club awards for Spend, Spend, Spend and Society Of West End Theatre award for Blood Brothers. Barbara has been awarded with an Honorary Doctorate of Music from both the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and was also honoured with ‘The Pride of Scotland Award’ at The Scottish Music Awards.
