King Georges Medical University and CURE International India signed an agreement on 31 July 2014 to eradicate disability caused by clubfoot in Uttar Pradesh. It is estimated that over 11,000 children are born with clubfoot every year in Uttar Pradesh and if treated at an early stage, these children can lead a normal and productive life. Prof Dr Ravi Kant, Vice Chancellor expressed his confidence that KGMU, which is the nodal center for this state level eradication program, will emerge as a center of excellence for the Ponseti method of clubfoot management. Prof Dr Vineet Sharma and Dr Santosh Kumar spoke on the occasion that every month hundreds of children with clubfoot approach the orthopaedic department and this program will benefit them all. CURE International India is a national voluntary organisation serving children born with clubfoot across India said its Director, Dr Santhosh George. Apart from treatment with serial casting, these children will be given foot abduction brace (special shoe) free of cost by CURE. Ashish, State Program Manager and Roopa, State Program coordinator for the UP Clubfoot program were present during the occasion. CURE has established a 24X7 UP State Clubfoot helpline - 9565 3333 02.
