Kiribati. Kiribati, Kiribati. I wish this word was in everyones vocabulary and consciousness. Our consumption is having a direct relationship to what will be the displacement of 100,000 people. Imagine knowing your country will be inhabitable in 30 to 60 years? Climate Change becomes real-er than real when you are watching the sea water encroach upon your home or enter your freshwater supply. While I sit here on my computer, while I drive my car to work or training, while I turn on and off the lights, while politics mire down action, while I turn on the faucet and water fills my glass without the bitter taste of salt, while I allow my heart to feel...really feel...what it must be like to be a small nation dealing with the dire effects of anothers luxury, while I acknowledge and accept the truth of the bond of humanity and that we are indeed brothers and sisters, while I ponder all these things in the cozy comfort of my home, I am filled with an urgent sense of care and grief that my actions are contributing to these consequences. The important thing is not to lose oneself in guilt or the immensity of the issue. The important thing is to be aware and present in everyday actions. And for me, to stop in my busy-ness and breathe in the big picture. And then act accordingly. nytimes/interactive/2014/03/27/world/100000002788064.app.html?_r=0
