Kogi State chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Kogi State University chapter, Sola Ademiluka, has said the union may go on strike if the federal and state governments failed to implement the 2009 agreement with the union. He made this known at a press conference at the Ayingba campus. He said both levels of government had not followed on their promise to make funds available for the development of the institution. “The agreement provides for funding, condition of service, university autonomy among others, adding that the agreement stipulates that all federal universities in the country shall be provided with N1.5 trillion from 2009 to 2011 to enable them upgrade their existing facilities while the state university be provided N3.68 million per student for the same period,” he said Ademiluka also said the bill on retirement age for academics in professional cadre had not been passed into law while many universities’ clinics have not been upgraded to meet the requirements for registration with the National Health Insurance Scheme. “Rather than fulfil these promises, the federal and some state governments have illegally dissolved governing council of the universities,”
