Kris Gethin, the fitness trainer who has worked with Hrithik - TopicsExpress

Kris Gethin, the fitness trainer who has worked with Hrithik Roshan and Mahesh Babu, tells Postnoon about his journey in India, body building and the secret behind the physical change in both the superstars. “Hrithik Roshan’s jaw dropping transformation for his upcoming film Krrish 3 has an interesting beginning. Back in 2011, after the actor hurt his back while shooting for Agneepath, he was advised bed rest for several weeks. During this time, he put on several kilos and after he recovered, he found it impossible to fit into the suit designed for his role in Krrish 3. His entire body needed re-engineering and the person who would help Hrithik Roshan was 8,000 miles away. Meet Kris Gethin, a fitness trainer and one of the world’s most renowned transformation specialists, whose client list now spans from Hrithik Roshan to Mahesh Babu in South. It’s been almost a year and a half since you came to India. Tell us about your journey so far. Hrithik Roshan had read my book — Body by Design and he was so impressed that he wanted me to get him into shape. He was advised to take eight weeks of bed rest by the doctors, but he couldn’t wait that long since he had a film to shoot. When I first met him, he was slowly recovering from two slipped discs. We started off with a lot of cardio exercises and crossfit workouts. More than anything else, he was extremely committed to DTP (Dramatic Transformation Principle), the programme I had designed for him and the results are there for everyone to see. What exactly is DTP and what led you to come up with this programme? Honestly, it was an accident (laughs). Back in 2005, I had sustained a lot of injuries and broke a lot of bones. There was a point where I couldn’t even lift free weights. So, I started working with higher repetitions and decided to increase the weights. People told me that it wouldn’t work, because you are always advised to start with lighter weights, but I saw fantastic results through DTP. My muscles had a more three dimensional look and I was experiencing more fullness and density in my muscles. It is quite an intensive work out and requires full dedication for 12 weeks. Not everyone has the same body structure or strength for that matter. Do you suggest the same programme for everyone to attain a muscular physique? This programme is for everyone irrespective of their gender, but they’ll have to undergo the training within their barriers. The important part is to reach failure, a stage where your body gives up and cannot proceed any further. I have worked with plenty of clients including film actors and one of the most important aspect is to change their lifestyle completely. If you are committed, maintain consistency and punctuality and mentally strong, I cannot think of a reason why DTP won’t work. You have worked with Hrithik Roshan and Mahesh Babu. Did they go through a same fitness program? Both of them went through a very similar fitness programme, although they don’t eat the same amount of food everyday. Hrithik has a faster metabolism rate and he eats eight meals a day, whereas Mahesh Babu eats seven times a day. Their diet consists of chicken, fish, spinach, oat meal, pasta, broccoli among many other things. I sincerely believe that both Mahesh and Hrithik are on top of their game both personally and professionally because they are very hard working and humble. In fact, I have got plenty of compliments for Mahesh Babu’s new look and people say that he looks ten years younger now. In your website, you recommend a lot of supplements. Even those who go to the gym regularly, don’t take so many supplements. Supplements are extremely beneficial because they help you from in repairing the damage caused to muscles during workouts. People who don’t recommend supplements are either wrong or uneducated. So what’s next? There’s a lot of motivation among people here, but there’s a lack of education in fitness. We are planning to organise an event named ‘Body Power’ in 2014 that will bring together the best of fitness trainers, celebrities and it’ll have plenty of educational seminars.
