Kudos to JPS for agreeing today to move forward with Apples One-to-One Initiative (coming soon)! To start, all ninth graders (2,400 students) will receive a Macbook that will enhance learning via an upgraded technology experience. Like surrounding school districts, this opportunity will be made possible through a lease-purchase agreement between the district and Apple and parents will be responsible for a small maintenance fee while ensuring that the equipment remains in good condition and is turned in at the end of the school year (like textbooks). Funding to support this effort is being made possible by a partnership with MDE to repurpose current Title funds and the expectation is that, over time, all JPS students (K-12) will be able to benefit from this program.
