Kwara: a State That Cares The assertion “a State that cares” - TopicsExpress

Kwara: a State That Cares The assertion “a State that cares” is accurate for kwara state, as the state has taking the health care of the people to the next echelon. The health scheme began with the conception of a vision in the mind of the caring Government to help communities with low income in Kwara State on the matter of health care. Let us voyage back a little to the time the vision began, it began in the year 2007 in which the Kwara State Government collaborates with the Hygeia Nigeria Limited together with Ducth NGO; PharmAcess Foundation and the Health Insurance Fund to cater for the health of the citizens the scheme commenced in Shonga and Bacita environs of Edu LGA. The health scheme started during the administration of Dr Olubukola Saraki, former Governor of Kwara State, throughout that time, only two Local Governments (LGs) have access to it before the now Senator completed his term as the Governor of Kwara State. Since then, the incumbent Government did not relax her efforts on matters related to the health of the people. The scheme as earlier mentioned, commenced in Shonga and Bacita environs of Edu LGA in 2007. In the month of june, 2009 the plan was scaled up to cater for additional groups in Asa LGA in Afon Community of the State. An additional group in Kwara South was added in December 2012 which is the Oyun LGA in Erin Ile community. Since the present Government took over, the health sector has experienced what I personally call a boom as it has not stopped at catering for communities well fare in the areas of power supply, Road construction, good water supply to mention a few, but it has also taken the health care of it citizen to the most expedient side, and chiefly for those that are poor. The health Scheme which started with only two Local Government( LG) in 2011 has now moved to 8 Local Government in 2014.Worthy of note is the impact of The Federal Government in the scheme in which a person can access the health care with the sum of N 2,000 for a whole year, but most commendable is the impact of the Kwara State government which reduce it to N500 for a whole year. This Health Insurance Scheme which enables a person have access to all year round healthcare for just N500 has been extended to a great number of beneficiaries and has been valued as one of the most successful by the United Nations. So far, Eighty-five Thousand (85,000) people have benefitted from this scheme and more are still coming as the incumbent Government will not rest till health of all the people in kwara is secured. Kudos to the Government as Community Health Insurance Scheme brought the state in the spotlight yet again as the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) applauded the Policy and the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed was given an award for improving the quality of health care in the State.
