LAGOS -The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Adeniji-Adele, Lagos have arrested six suspected armed robbers in Ekiti state. Also, 13 exotic cars, mainly Toyota and Honda products, two locally made pistols were recovered from the suspects and presented to newsmen and some of the victims of the bandits for identification. The Force Police Public Relations Officer (FPPRO), ACP Frank Mba who paraded the suspects in Lagos before newsmen claimed that the gang specializes in stealing exotic cars from different parts of the country and sell them off in neighboring countries. He said 17 different exotic cars, mostly Toyota and Honda products, two locally made single barrel pistols and assorted ammunition were recovered from the gang. According to Mba, “The FSARS, led by the Deputy Commissioner of police, Mr. Chris Ezike was able to arrest the suspects in Ekiti, Abuja and Lagos after complaints by a victim whose cars were stolen in Lagos”. “One of the suspects was arrested in Lagos with the Black Berry hand set phone of one of the victims leading to the arrest of two members of the gang in Ekiti who claimed to be APC members. The confession of the suspect in Lagos led to the arrest of one Omoniyi Ajewole, 28 years old, who claimed to be a political thug in Ekiti. He claimed one Odeyemi Itunu, aka ‘Gomina’ gave him a gun”, he disclosed. The FPRO stressed further, “Under interrogation, Itunu claimed he was an Executive Assistant to Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State. He confessed to have given the gun to Ajewole to protect them during election period. The suspect claimed Ajewole was his Personal Assistant; unfortunately, he was arrested before Ekiti election. They are involved in robbery and politic. They would soon be charge to court”. He however advise politicians to play the game by the rule, warning those with political violence tendency to stay clear of Osun State during it election in August, saying “We use this medium to warn politicians to stay clear of anything that constitute a threat to the peaceful conduct of election in Osun State and 2015 nationwide”. The Police spokesman added, “We will bring the full weight of the law against anyone that would cause crisis during the elections. We are aware of the time and our responsibilities. The Inspector-General of police had directed all commands, units and zones to commence massive mop up of illegal arms in circulation nationwide. We have recovered more arms in Delta, Lagos, Kogi, Rivers, Anambra, Edo and Ebonyi states. We seek the support of members of the public”. “The ban on the issuance of license for arms remains until the general elections in 2015. This is one way we can check the inflow of illegal arms in the country”, Mba remarked.
