LAST SUPPER Last sip AT THE last all-male supper at the Wesleyan Church earlier this month - they resume in September - two people at my table refused to drink the ice water, the only beverage offered besides coffee and tea (which they also refused) and all of which I was happily drinking myself. But at home, I will not even give the stuff that comes out of our taps to my dog, it reeks so much of chlorine, until it has sat for several hours at room temperature and then been totally chilled. How about you? When asked about this, the man in charge of our waterworks - and much else; too big a job if you ask me - said our chlorine levels are well below levels accepted by the health department and way below what they are running to in other communities, such as Fredericton. But that is unacceptable to me. The first thing a municipality is obligated to offer its citizens, it seems to me, is clean, clear, DRINKABLE water. We seem to have the first two down pat. I think we can do much better on the third part. WHAT DO YOU THINK? And, by the way, anyone drinking water at that council meeting was drinking it out of plastic bottles. Which we consume in vast quantities - without recycling, another beef I have. Which was very delicious by the way. Cooked and served by eight women.
