LAST week Barnaby Joyce waved the white flag on his own job when he said, “I don’t really get myself involved in foreign affairs and trade, it’s all vastly too complicated for me, it’s beyond my pay scale.” Barnaby might be surprised to learn that Australia’s agricultural trade is worth $38.9 billion per annum. He may not know that our nation is blessed with a food surplus, that we grow far more than we could ever consume and as a consequence we trade over two thirds of the food we grow, raise and produce.
