LASURECO, Ikaw, Ako: Winning the Meranao Heart Jaima Mauntol, MSU College of Law Sindaw (light) , a message not only for electric cooperative LASURECO to accomplish in a province which is in a state of darkness. SINDAW can also mean taking responsibility for what we consume and for employees to give accurate readings as well. It has been a month already since the incumbency of the TASK FORCE LASURECO, the new administrator of LASURECO though a transition. The team has 6 months period for its reform and metereing project before the formal election of a new Board and management. The team is facing a great challenge on how to fulfill their goals and to meet the difficulty of their job. The management has to analyze and examine thoroughly the very basic problem and to meticulously grasp the very prime solution if possible. It has to be understood that the ownership of LASURECO is by the Meranao people and this has to be conveyed. This is also reiterated by DILG Secretary Mar Roxas when he visited Lanao on August 8 with MINDA Secretary Lualhati Antonino, Energy Secretary Petilla, to resolve the LGU claims on electricity and LASURECO issues. Surveys need to be conducted on how Meranaos perceive the entity and how they can help regain its being a consumer-led and consumer-driven cooperative. Lacking in support in collections and tampering may be because of lack of knowledge what is really the role and responsibility of LASURECO to the people of Lanao. Responsibility may yet to be ingrained in the hearts of many. Additionally, only few understand the true essence of producer-consumer relationship which is supposed played by LASURECO as the producer and the Meranaos as the consumers. This may be the challenge on how to make people understand a basic equation, that the role and function of LASURECO and the Meranaos are inseparable. Inseparable in a sense that, LASURECO cannot perform well without the cooperation of the consumers through paying properly, and the consumers need the true and genuine service of LASURECO for the citizens daily activities. Also, to convince people that LASURECO is owned by them, that’s why it shall be protected and given full support with regards to its operations. Since Meranaos are the owners of a cooperative such as LASURECO, it must be protected through fulfilling their obligations towards it by paying their certain bills. Accordingly, as affirmed by certain personalities, the very basic NEED is how to win the hearts of the Meranaos, and to deal with their psychological perspective which contains different instincts and a source of feuds. Furthermore, to emphasize to them that electricity is not free, that’s why they need to pay. This may only be attained through mutual understanding and sentiments to one another. Thus, this shall enter the cooperation of different sectors such as the influence of academe in the young mindset of pupils and students which may be brought from school up to their respective homes. Of course, with the assistance of LGU’s and the help of religious sectors in their respective areas during sermons.
