LEADERSHIP – MORALE (CONFIDENCE, SELF ESTEEM, ETC) STRATEGIES Morale is an individual’s mental and emotional state. It determines the attitude of an individual towards himself, his fellow beings, his leader, the state / organization, and other aspects which is important to him. It conditions his willingness to engage in the task assigned whole heartedly. Morale is closely related to the satisfying of people’s basic human needs. High Morale is a Positive State of Mind which gives the people / staff a feeling of Confidence and Well being that enables him / her to face hardships, etc. with Courage, Endurance, and Determination. Any Manager or Leader should always be concerned with the Morale of the People under him / her. Without Positive Morale there is No motivation for people to succeed, there is no initiative to be productive or creative and there is apathy toward the future of the organization. Creating positive morale is a matter of understanding what people / employees need to keep them happy, and then finding the balance between that and organizational success. Strategies to Uplift Morale: 1. Stability ~ Job stability is a strong positive motivator 2. Trust and Delegation of Responsibility to People / Staff as per their Skill, Knowledge and Experience 3. Motivation Essentials: a. Your Timely Arrival at Work Site or Engagement Sets the Tone for the day b. Use simple, common and powerful words to motivate people / staff c. Clear Objectives / Aims i.e. Make Sure People Know What You Expect d. Provide Regular Feedback for People / Staff e. People Need Positive and Not So Positive Consequences f. Discipline g.
