LEON BALOGUN DELIGHTED ABOUT THE FACT THAT HE WILL NOT NEED SURGERY ON HIS FOOT SUPER Eagles defender Leon Balogun is delighted about the fact that he will not need surgery on his injured foot and will be back in action within two months giving him every chance of making Nigerias World Cup squad. Balogun, 25, injured his right foot last week during Nigerias 0-0 draw with Mexico in a friendly game played at Atlantas Georgia Dome. It had originally been feared that the player would need intricate surgery on the fractured foot, leaving him out of actions and ending his World Cup hopes. However, after a second examination of doctors at his club Fortuna Dusseldorf, it was revealed that he will not need to undergo surgery as the injury is not as serious as previously envisaged. According to the doctors, the player will be out of action for about six weeks, meaning he should be fully recovered by the time the Super Eagles World Cup camp opens on May 25. Balogun said: “They told me that the two bones broken are in the base of my foot, which will heal on their own and will not require me to undergo any surgical operation. I was also told that within six weeks I should be in good condition and another two or four weeks for rehabilitation. Overall I should be back kicking the ball by the time the national team returns to camp. I must say I am totally overwhelmed by the show of love by Nigerians and fans across the world and I remain committed to overcome this initial setback and return quickly for the World Cup preparations.” He added that he will keep fit while recuperating by visiting the gym regularly. Hoping to be fully fit for action when the Super Eagles camp opens in May, Balogun is hopeful that he will be able to play some part in Nigerias friendly against Scotland taking place at Fulhams Craven Cottage ground in London on May 28. Meanwhile, Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi has dismissed as rumours reports he could soon be on his way out of Chelsea, insisting he is focused on doing well with his London club. Mikel insisted there is no truth in reports that he is on his way to Inter Milan at the end of the season as he is contracted to Chelsea until 2017. Mikel added that he believes the Super Eagles will shine at Brazil 2014 by stopping a losing run against Argentina at the World Cup to begin with. Nigeria is drawn against Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iran in Group F of the World Cup.
