LESSON 16: DECEMBER21st, 2014: TITHES AND OFFERINGS PRAYER POINTS: 1. Pray that your parish member will be faithful to God in tithes and offering 2. Pray that Christians all over the world will respect God with their tithes and offerings and receive the blessings of this obedience. BIBLE PASSAGES:- EXO35:4-10,20-21; MALACHI3:6-12 Ex:35:4: And Moses spake unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD commanded, saying, Ex:35:5: Take ye from among you an offering unto the LORD: whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of the LORD; gold, and silver, and brass, Ex:35:6: And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats hair, Ex:35:7: And rams skins dyed red, and badgers skins, and shittim wood, Ex:35:8: And oil for the light, and spices for anointing oil, and for the sweet incense, Ex:35:9: And onyx stones, and stones to be set for the ephod, and for the breastplate. Ex:35:10: And every wise hearted among you shall come, and make all that the LORD hath commanded; Ex:35:20: And all the congregation of the children of Israel departed from the presence of Moses. Ex:35:21: And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORDs offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments. Mal:3:6: For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Mal:3:7: Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return? Mal:3:8: Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Mal:3:9: Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Mal:3:10: Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Mal:3:11: And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. Mal:3:12: And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts. MEMORY VERSE: Mal:3:8: Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. LESSON INTRODUCTION- Regular payment of tithes and offerings is mandatory because God commanded it. Tithes and offerings are God’s provisions to bless His people. Obedience to this has brought financial blessings to many believers who practiced it and disobedience has continued to rob others of fulfillment of divine promises LESSON OUTLINE 1: TITHING Tithe is one tenth of all income, salary, wages, profit, gifts etc i. Tithing is a practice which has existed long before the dispensation of the law.- Gen14:18-20 ii. Abraham paid tithe. His seed too must pay- John8:39, Gal3:26-29, Roman4:12 iii. Jacob vowed to pay tithes if the Lord will protect him-Gen28:16-22 iv. Israel was commanded payment of tithes- Lev27:30-32, Numb18:21-24 v. Jesus commanded payment of tithes and compared doing same with mercy, faith, love of God, etc- Matthew23:23; Luke18:12 vi. Paying tithe attracts some blessings- Mal3:11 vii. Not paying tithe will bring curses upon the offender- Mal3:9 viii. Covetousness, rebellion, unbelief and greed are some of the reasons some people do not pay tithes- 1Tim6:10; 1Sam15:23; Heb11:6 ix. Sore house is your church/parish where you receive spiritual nourishment x. Tithes are to support the work of God LESSON OUTLINE 2:- OFFERINGS i. Offerings are willing gifts which we offer to God from our heart- Ex35:4-10,20,21 ii. Both offerings and tithes must be paid to avoid robbing God- Mal3:8 iii. Offerings were paid in the OLD Testament iv. For offerings to attract God’s blessings, it must possess the following characteristics/attributes: a. Regularity- 1Corinth16:2 b. Cheerfulness- 2Corinth9:7 c. Willingness- 2Corinth8:12 d. Abundance- 2Corinth9:6 e. Sacrifice-2Corinth8:3-4 LESSON OUTLINES 3:- THE BLESSEDNESS OF TITHING AND OFFERINGS i. Blessings follow those who give than those who receive- Act20:35 ii. Tithes provide food for the house of God- Mal3:11 iii. Devourers will be rebuked for the sake of the payers- Mal3:10 iv. There shall be showers of blessings from within and outside- Mal3:10-12 SUMMARY:- Pay your tithes and offerings and you will blessed CONCLUSION: Payment of tithes and offerings is a duty for all born again children of God.
