LESSON 3 How important is it to call on the name of LORD JESUS CHRIST for help, Salvation, and deliverance. Some people think that to call upon the name of the Lord those not literally mean to verbally call out the name of the Lord, but it mean something other. Let us examining the scriptures, the original Old Testament text which was Hebrews text and the New Testament text which was original Greek, and let us understand what calling on the name of the Lord really means. The word Call: First of all the word call is a verb, the word call is also an action verb. In the English language in every sentence there is at least one subject and one verb. The subject is the main theme and the verb is what the subject is doing or acting or performing or with action around the subject. Qara : is an old testament Hebrew word; This fairly common verb occurs 730 times with the meaning call, meet, and read. There are four discernible strands of meaning under the general sense of “call” in regard to this verb “naming” “crying out,” “summoning” and “proclaiming.” Qara; in the sense of calling is that of “cry out” referring in these biblical text the cries of human beings and referring many times this way in the Old Testament. Qara; also means summons approximately one hundred times in the Old Testament. Qara: is also used as a synonym for worship whereby people call upon the name of the Lord. “Calling upon the divine GOD as an expression for thanksgiving; or a plea for blessings; or help;” GENESIS 4:26; 12:8; 13:4; 21:33; 26:35; 2 KINGS 5:11; ISAIAH 29:12; 1 CHRONICLES 16:8; JOEL 2:32 ZECHARIAH 13:9 Amar: is another Old Testament Hebrew word; is a very common verb found over 5,300 times in the Old Testament text. With the predominant senses of “say” “speak” and several related nuances. Included in these is the meaning “call.” New Testament Text In the New Testament which was original written in the Greek Text; to understand in dept scriptures then understanding root words that are rooted inside the English text here is what we have found with more understanding of New Testament Scriptures. Kaleo: is a Greek Verb found 150 times in the New Testament Text, indicating the primary sense of “call” With several related nuances in a variety of context. It is used of both human beings and GOD. “Man calling on GOD, and God calling on man” (“Kaleo”) Epikaleo is another New Testament Greek word, is a verb found 30 times with the sense of “call on, upon” and be called and or be giving a name. Epikaleo: References to “calling upon” the name of the Lord in the context of worship and prayer are found in Acts 2:21; 7:59; 9:14; 22:16; 1 PETER 1:17; ROMANS 10:12 2 TIMOTHY 2:22 Epikaleo: Also calling on the name of CHRIST is noted in Acts 9:21; 1 CORINTIANS 1:2; Phoneo: is a New Testament Greek word; is a verb occurring about forty times with the predominant meaning to “call, cry out” as well as to “summon.” Lego: New Testament Greek Word; lego is a common verb occurring over 1,300 times with the dominant sense of “say,” “speak” however in a number of cases lego means “call,” Also “be called,” and or “named.” (“The Name of the Lord Means Savior, Deliverer, and Salvation or Jehovah Has Become Salvation”) GENESIS 12:8 (Abraham) And he remove from Thence unto a mountain on the east of beth’-el, and pitched his tent, having Beth’-el on the west, and Ha’-I on the east: and there he builded an alter unto the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord. GENESIS 13:4(Abraham) Unto the place of the alter, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the Lord.
