LIVE ABOVE THE SENSES Hard times are not welcomed. No one likes failure. Trouble is never easy. When faced with difficult circumstances, the flesh says, “Give up” but the Bible says that we should live above the realm of the senses; we should live above what we see, what we hear, what our circumstance looks like and what we read in the newspaper. It is only the spiritual man who can endure - who can go on; the natural man will give in to the senses. There are five senses – what we see, hear, touch, smell and taste. In Matthew 26:40-41, Jesus gives us the perfect example of how to live above the senses as He spoke to His disciples: “ ‘Could ye not watch with me one hour?’ He asked Peter. ‘Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.’ ” Jesus was telling them that the mind is the watchman. If the mind sleeps, the wily foe, the clever enemy takes the opportunity to attack. The mind plays an important part in prayer. Spiritual alertness is a necessary principle for prayer warfare. It is therefore most essential that your mind should be made spiritual, in order that it should be at its best for God. To make the mind the watchman, we need to have a hunger and desire for God’s Word, keep His Word in your mind, mouth and in every conversation. This will allow us to begin to know God more and hear His voice more clearly.
