LOCAL WRITING COMPETITION ATTRACTS PLENTY OF INTEREST This year’s writing competition being run by the Pleasant Point Presbyterian Church is attracting plenty of interest from around the country. The entries are starting to flow in, says Pleasant Point writer Karalyn Reid, with the deadline being the end of this month. She says they are still fielding plenty of enquiries for entry forms. The competition is the third the Parish have held, resulting in the publishing of the successful , almost sold-out, “Fuel for the Soul” in 2009, and “I Saw Love Today” anthologies in 2011. This new anthology will focus on “hope and survival”, and be sold with the help of the Cancer Society. Karalyn says so many people have been touched by cancer in one way or another, and there are some amazing stories to tell. It can be quite overwhelming to find out you have cancer or a serious illness, she adds, and often people are lost and feel quite alone. She feels there is a need for a book that focuses on survival, from others have been in their shoes and got through it. She says it’s the honesty in the submissions selected in the “I Saw Love Today” anthology that has such a big impact on the reader. The Parish are already planning a weekend of celebrations early next year for those published in the new anthology, and if it’s anything like the last book launch, Karalyn says it will be a weekend to remember.
