LOGIC LETTER 3/12 Dear Lojiks, The soap opera that is Temple, Texas city government has progressed. Mayor Pro Tem Judy Morales was arrested late yesterday and is out on $1500 bond. We are told that the statute of limitations has expired for the crime of using county materials and resources. So the charges only relate to the cover-up. Her maximum sentence would be a $4,000 fine and/or up to three months in jail. I am not happy with any of this. While I do not revel in the arrest and charges of Ms. Morales, who, by all accounts, has done wonderful things for the community, I do not like the idea that there will be no charges or court-enforced restitution to the citizens of Bell County to pay them back for the monetary value of what was used. I also do not believe this ends the case. I still want to know about Ms. Morales real estate holdings and whether there is any relationship to her county job. I want to know precisely what the beef is that so many members of LULAC have expressed to me in person and to others. I want to know who made charges of racism against Mayor Danny Dunn. I want to know who Mayor Dunn thinks is the driving force behind Mari Pauls recall effort. I want to know why the city council did nothing when it was learned that Ms. Morales was serving on the council in opposition to the City Charter. I want to know who told the council members NOT to speak to the public or the media (as is their duty). But mostly, I want to know WHY so many people staunchly defended Morales ethical lapses even to the point of one saying something to the effect of -- if she broke the law, then the law should be changed. Something is fishy. I would like to know if any of these folks have any reason to support her beyond racial solidarity or gratefulness for her contributions to the city. Mari Paul continues her effort to recall without any knowledge of how many names she must obtain. What a mess. Remember that Judy Morales promised to resign from the council if she was charged with any crime. She must fulfill that promise. And in yet another big controversy, a new police report says Temple policemen violated procedures and possibly the Texas Penal Code in the case of a 15-year old bot being thrown to the ground and having his collarbone broken. But Chief Gary Smith gets high marks from the youths lawyers. I wonder if the A&E Network knows about Temple, Texas? I received a listener letter about all this -- AND the lack of TV news coverage, Here it is: I expect you will spend some time on the Temple Mayor Pro Tem getting arrested, booked and released today (Tuesday). The evening news spent so little time talking about it, I actually missed it while I was setting up the recorder and I KNEW they were going to talk about it. They couldnt put aside one of the dumb human interest stories to report actual news? And, they wonder why they are becoming irrelevant. Is this not important? Are they lazy? Are they jealous of the Temple Daily Telegram? Are they protecting their fellow liberals? sometimes it just blows my mind. If the broadcast channels were real news services, each one would have had a reporter on the story during the day - what a joke theyve become. My comments on this statement: Our local TV stations, as with most around the country, are all owned by big out-of-town companies. They are all convinced (probably through consultants) that you want to watch police news (robberies, car wrecks) and get self-help stories like how to improve your nights sleep -- or something. I do not blame the on-air people. They all want to move up and would like to have better audition tapes, so theyd like to cover better stories like political corruption. Take note that ABC News under Diane Sawyer is pretty much a self-help broadcast now, or at least thats what they promote. Now -- more from the letter: Lynn, I appeal to you to get the word out that Mari Paul needs help. She needs people to help her get recall petition signatures. Any city council member who knew about Judy Morales sham campaign conducted out of the Temple HELP office and the coverup should be ran out of office. The good news is that they were so digitally incompetent at the Temple HELP office that Judy didnt even know how to move information from her desktop to an external drive to get rid of it - seriously - much less trying to data mine two year old information on the server and relevant emails. I would like to know what LULAC information was on the server that judge Burrows was worried about if it got out to the public. Theres no way that can be a good thing. To Bob in Killeen who wrote this -- I could not help but see parallels in the IRS case with Lois Lerner. When there are suspicions of a crime -- and when those at the top refuse to talk to the people they serve -- they are taking a tough situation and making it worse by degrees. Of course, I think Lois Lerner committed crimes. Why wouldnt I? Transparent government is essential in a free society. Other news: Obama goes on a smarmy comedy site and look like a fool -- much as Nixon did on Laugh-In. Pathetic. Obama seems to believe the Ukraine situation is not worthy of his time. And where is the missing jetliner? WE still dont know, but maybe is wasnt terrorism. Then, where are the pings? What if we never find it. Maybe its a false flag. (That was satire.) Dianne Feinstein is PO-ed at the CIA for what she says it intimidation of Senate staff. This is over the waterboarding and such. I think Im content to let them fight and see whos left standing when its over. We shall l analyze on-air today and we shall take a stand. Watch us at t-span.tv. Logically, Lynn Woolley
