Labor Day Musings... The hardest part of being a parent is knowing that someday a piece of your heart will be walking around outside your body. I read this quote years ago, soon after becoming a mom, and even with my babe in my arms, I completely agreed. Ive found that these words hold true as our children grow and become more independent. Thinking today of a friend who has found the courage to send her 16-year-old daughter off to Spain to study for a year; of parents whose firstborn (or last born) has left the nest for college or other pursuits, and even of responsible single parents (like me) who share their kids time with the other parent for a greater good. Wherever your younglings are today, may the piece of your heart thats with them sustain them, and remind them that even when love lets go so they can fly, they can always land safely in your arms.
