Lack of even a phone signal meant no update on Thursday. Apologies, this is a longun.... So, havin played the gig at Horse Lake Ranch (a.k.a Mozzie Central) we moved on to Hohen Pritz on Thursday, headin West toward Hamburg. The Saloon Wild West had featured on German television for a reality show a while back with chef Frank Rosin doin a Gordon Ramsey, sort your restaurant out type program. Im told Frank is a much nicer bloke than that Ramsey guy. The gig was good an the owners couldnt do enough to help. A decent audience made all the right noises in the right places.... No I didnt play Ol MacDonald Had A Farm. A good evenin was had. From Hohen Pritz it was a couple of hours drive to reach the outskirts of Hamburg where the Chattahoochee bar is. Once booked in at the hotel we wandered back down the road to the bar - Its a venue Id played with both Kane & Co. an Cactus Jack but back then it was called Annas. Anna died a few years back an after failed attempts by a couple of folk to run the place it was taken over by Sylvia an Axel. Sylvia runs the bar an Axel deals with the music. He also plays in a band, John Law and The Tremors who came over from the UK to play The Star Club in Hamburg back in the sixties an stayed. The band are in their seventies now but still gig. Axel, who is somewhat younger, stepped in to replace their guitarist who died earlier this year. Arrivin at the bar just about nothin had changed since I last played there. Friday was a day off so I was havin a couple of beers. Axel asked if I fancied playin a few songs for the fun of it. Hes a Steve Earle fan so we had a run through of Johnny Come Lately. We then played a couple of mine, You Cant Win, with Axel playin gob-iron an Too Poor For Trailer Trash with him back on his telecaster. To finish off we jammed a really swampy Tony Joe White type version of Sweet Home Alabama, a song that I love but Ive heard an played far too many times. This was a breath of fresh air though. I stuck it in a different key an changed the melody a little. Folks sittin in the bar enjoyed it too an all said theyd be back Saturday evenin for the gig. Saturday dawned an I sat around at the hotel til the afternoon. Ive been into Hamburg before so wasnt bothered with hittin the town preferin a walk of a few kilometers instead. Arrivin shortly before the gig the bar seemed to be fillin quite nicely an continued to do so through the evenin. Two well received sets done, I invited Axel up durin the third to play the songs wed played the previous evenin. Went well, rocked the place, had a drink an headed back to the hotel to shower an hit my pit. CHEERS !!
