Laid out just moments ago in a speech at Georgetown University, President Obama’s EPA climate plan is a step backwards for our economy and ignores the environmentally safe, abundant energy sources and technological breakthroughs that can put the US on a path to energy independence. The President’s plan will raise electricity prices for consumers and destroy SWPA jobs supported by #coal: mining, boilermakers, laborers, electricians, operating engineers, steamfitters, plumbers, carpenters, and more. This administration has already closed one-fifth of US coal-fueled plants in the last four years and has made no secret about its anti-coal agenda. Today’s New York Times quotes Obama science advisor Daniel P. Schrag as calling for a #waroncoal. Congress and the American public have already rejected the intense legislative efforts in 2010 by the Obama administration to implement far-reaching greenhouse-gas regulations and dramatically raise energy prices. Since then, the administration has sought to get around congressional oversight by pushing through its climate change agenda using executive actions, including backdoor regulations at the EPA facilitated by its political appointees and its strategy of coordinating “sue-and-settle” lawsuits with environmental groups. When enacted, the President’s new EPA regulations would reverse our significant economic and environmental gains and keep Americans dependent on OPEC and other foreign sources of energy while here in SWPA we sit atop abundant and affordable reserves of energy. We don’t have to take a step backwards on energy independence, I’ll be doing aggressive oversight as this moves forward. Read more about my energy solutions plan here: 1.usa.gov/11Y48Ov
