Large numbers of parrots can be found at the Sharjah bird marked in Dubai, in most cases kept in very poor condition and health. Between 2010 and 2012, over 50,000 African Grey parrots were imported in the United Arab Emirates. The majority were listed as captive-bred and exported from South Africa and Bahrain, although in these countries there are no known facilities able to produce such numbers of Greys. They are often young and short lived, decimated by PBFD, a disease thriving in overcrowded conditions, poor hygiene and diet.
