Picture by Sarath Peiris A haul of heroin weighing over 150 kgs said to be the largest haul ever found in South Asia was recovered by the Customs sleuths from the Orugodawatte Customs yard yesterday. According to a Custom official, the heroin consignment hidden in a container has been valued at over Rs. 1,000 million. According to a Customs official, this container arrived in the country last July. The Customs officials on a tip off were on high alert for this container. This container was opened yesterday after three persons, including a Pakistani national came to the yard to get the container released from the yard. The Customs officials who opened the suspicious container in the presence of these suspects found a haul of heroin weighing only 30kg initially. But, on further investigation, they found more places where heroin had been hidden. These three individuals who came to claim the container were arrested and further investigations are being carried out under the direct supervision of Customs Director General Jagath P.
