Last Day at Sundance was about packing it up, and hitting just one - TopicsExpress

Last Day at Sundance was about packing it up, and hitting just one more event, the Gersh Brunch, thanks to Jay Cohen, one of the best agents in the biz, who once put his own money into the indie film SWIMMING WITH SHARKS starring Kevin Spacey, leading him to a complete life change, ultimately becoming a producer, finance expert, and now head of finance and distribution at Gersh. Jay guest starred during TIFF on SMTFM, and was truly insightful. After the last schmooze for me of the fest, running into the producer David Paterson, of BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA, who I met at Savannah Film Festival last fall (and who was actually the little boy in that film on who the story is based by his mother), and a selfie with biz partner Steven Pierre Lartigue-Adams overlooking Park City Main Street, I high tailed it out of there to meet up with Ashley and Rob at one of my fave Mexican joints, the Red Iguana, before heading to the airport to go home. I learned upon landing that DOPE was bought for $7M by Open Road, the largest sale to date this Sundance, where the average appears to be around $3M, which is impressive, and no doubt well deserved! Happy to say I beat the Blizzard of 2015, which is expected tomorrow. Looking forward to teaching my second class of Creative Producing II in person on Monday at BU...and to some sleep.
