Last Saturday there was a Peace march in Tel Aviv attended by over 10,000 people. It was held in Rabin Square which has always been an important gathering place for protest and celebration, only made more poignant by the assassination of Prime Minister Rabin by an Israeli ultranationalist terrorist in 1995 The demonstrators called for immediate dialogue with Palestinians to ensure a fair peace, the opening of Gaza and a determined stand of Arabs and Jews against racism and for life While the protest wasnt huge it was an important statement by Israelis who are horrified by the level of destruction and killing carried out by the government, in their name. The attacks on Gaza are widely supported in Israel and its hard to voice dissent which can lead to accusations of treachery and, on many occasions, threats of violence. Because of this hostility there were very few performers willing to stick their necks out ,at the risk alienating their audience and potentially sabotaging their livelihoods. Author David Grossman gave a speech and two musicians performed. One was Mira Awad an Israeli Palestinian singer, and the other was my brother, Adam Gorlizki. Im incredibly proud of Adam for taking this stance and performing this beautiful song, which he wrote very recently. Its called Shtay Arezzot or Two Countries
