Over the course of this friendly, informal and peer led one day conference we will discuss making the most of your PhD experience and offer practical advice on how to successfully live with a PhD rather than simply for living for it. (See agenda below for more) We have a diverse set of contributors including part time and international PhDs as well as early career researchers. We are especially pleased to welcome Michelle Phillips of Routledge, Taylor & Francis who will help put publishing into perspective. Why should you attend? 1. Meet colleagues from across The UK and find out who is researching what 2. “I wish I knew that back then” – hear PhDs and lecturers’ alike reflect 3. Compare experiences of inductions, learn about other departments 4. Get a sense of what is expected of you as a new PhD candidate 5. Network for future conferences, collaborations or your career 6. Discover that BISA is more than a journal; why not join a working group? 7. It is free to attend! Email, facebook or tweet us your hints and tips, what you’d like to discuss or any hopes and fears: *** https://twitter/BISAPGN *** https://facebook/BISAPGNetwork Tea/coffee will be provided in the afternoon, but not lunch. We suggest you try Opposite (it’s across the road!) or The Parkinson Court Café (it’s beside the room!). There will be time for drinks afterwards. Travel: The Conference will be held in The Centenary Gallery on the left hand side of Parkinson Court, The Parkinson Building (60 on the campus map) Details of how to get to Leeds can be found online here. Comments from last year: *** “I was hoping to understand more exactly what PhD study would involve and basically to be reassured and the event certainly gave me that” *** “The you and your supervisor session was beneficial because we come from different cultures, different ways to work and need to get to know each other more” #phdchat #phdlife #phdstudents #BISA #BISAPGN #UniversityofLeeds #InternationalRelations #InternationalStudies #GlobalPolitics
