Last night I attended a meeting about the future of Stokesmead, - TopicsExpress

Last night I attended a meeting about the future of Stokesmead, the field at the end of Alver Lake. Over 30 years ago, Abbey Homes bought the National Childrens Home and developed it. Also included in the purchase was Stokesmead, which has always been an open parcel of land used by the community. When planning application was turned down, Abbey Homes fenced off the land and despite several attempts by the council to compulsory purchase or lease the land, Abbey still refuses to sell or lease, despite the fact that their chances of getting planning permission are virtually zero. The Lake is being more and more used by people all over the Borough and Stokesmead would be an invaluable asset as an open space for us all to use and enjoy. The meeting was held by the Anglesey conservation group, attended by a full audience, and council planning officers, our local councillor, as well as our MP, Caroline Dinenage, who has pledged her support in Parliament. What can we do? It is not against the law to own land, and property developers have a right to make money, but 30 years have gone by with a valuable resource to the community wasted. Petitions are a waste of time as companies ignore them. Letters en masse to the Chairman of Abbey or the Directors may be a better option. If any of you are shareholders, you have a vote, or maybe some bright spark out there may have a solution that has baffled minds for 30 years. Your comments would be appreciated. We have 11, 000 members - let us see how many care.
