Last night I attended the Emergency Response to the Decision of the Mike Brown Case rally + the march that followed. The protesters obstructed and disrupted traffic downtown and attempted to do so numerous times with the bridges nearby, to which police response intensified and responded. People downtown were frustrated with the protesters. Many had faces of irritation and disgust, and at one point a man attempted to assault protesters and a member of the media before the police intervened. The march found its self crossing into NE Portland where the march was met with the same results - irritated and disgusted drivers. This time, a man in his car, window rolled down, yelled at the general direction of me and a reporter I am friends with. He yelled at us to get a job. She showed her press pass and said she was a journalist, taking pictures of his reaction to the protest. He then grabbed her camera, she struggled to keep it and was able to keep it away from him. He punched her in the chest. He tried reaching for it again and I intervened by grabbing his arm and pushing it out of the way. He reacts to that by punching me in the chest as well. At this point, were both trapped between two cars. The cops are far ahead of us. Theres only a few protesters around us. A protester sees this happening and punches the man in the face, while hes still in his car. He then exits his car and the media jumps forward. Dont let anyone tell you the driver was attacked. He assaulted a woman of color and a trans woman who were both working/participating in the protest and someone came to our defense. The local media, not having all the information, reported that the driver attacked by a large man (by what those reporters, who we ran into later, said, a Black man) unprovoked. Thats not true.
