Last night at the Cornell Education Center at the Fair grounds - TopicsExpress

Last night at the Cornell Education Center at the Fair grounds several people from near- by Lower Town in the city attended a meeting by representatives of the federal EPA to discuss plans to alleviate the issue of contamination cause by the spring flooding of the 18 mile creek that flows through the community. In short, no state official attended, several plans were put the table and t...hose in attendance were informed $three-millions “not guarantee” could be used for the clean-up to include razing the former Flintcote site, removing and replacing all contaminated soil, as well as, buy homes or help displaced residences (average $50,000) deem unsafe. Questions were raise concerning - how the contaminated material would be disposed fearing it would go to the Lewiston dump site for such materials - no response from the representatives. Former Flintcote site borders the creek has been a problem for years as vandals have torch the place and allegations of drug use. Being a city issue - questioned that local officials only answer to the dilapidated building site as been to place a fence surrounding the property and the wary that $3million (not guaranteed) would be sufficient to complete the work. No other meeting was scheduled.
