Last night,in Kennebunkport, a friend took me to a showing of Honor Flight, a documentary of volunteers that bring WW2 veterans in their 80s and 90s to Washington DC to be honored at the war memorial. It was the most emotional movie that I have ever seen. I needed a pile of kleenexes!. What these 18 and 19 year old kids did for our country at Iwo Jima, Normandy etc was incredible. They came back home, married, raised children and quietly conducted their lives with strong work ethics, integrity and a sense of rugged individualism. It reminded me of what my mom and dad instilled in me philosophically. After the movie, some veterans spoke of their experiences. A volunteer that has made several trips with these veterans also spoke. It would be fantastic if this movie was shown in all high schools. Sadly, it wont be. Someone will be offended. Anyway, it gave me pause as to what is really important in the scheme of life. Heres the trailer.
