Last night was an very interesting night of boxing, we saw some - TopicsExpress

Last night was an very interesting night of boxing, we saw some good fights and titles changed hands. In Brooklyn Pauli Malignaggi won his all Brooklyn duel with fellow veteran Zab Judah. Pauli just seemed to have too much speed and energy for Judah, and after an even first 5 rounds Malignaggi took over the fight as Judah faded and struggled to keep up. Malignaggi won by a clear points decision and will now be looking for a ‘big’ fight, perhaps even a rematch with Adrian Broner. On the Malignaggi vs. Judah undercard there were 3 world title fights. Erislandy Lara out boxed and out worked a lethargic looking Austin Trout to win the vacant WBA world light-middleweight title. Trout looked like a shadow of the boxer who had beaten Miguel Cotto and give Saul Alvarez a very tough fight. Lara Floored Trout heavily in the 11th round to put the finishing touches onto his victory. Shawn Porter scored a bit of an upset when he out pointed Devon Alexander for the IBF world welterweight title. Alexander was drawn into a toe to toe war with Porter and out himself out punched and out hustled. Fight of the night was perhaps Sakio Bika’s defence of his WBC world super-middleweight title against Anthony Dirrell. This was a wild, messy but also exciting fight with some good exchanges between both fighters. There were moments when both men looked to be out on their feet. In the end Bika for all his crudeness and roughness looked like ke wanted it more as he put more effort into the later rounds, literally throwing himself at Dirrell at times. The verdict was a draw after Bika had received a point deduction in the 11th round for a low blow. All in all a good night of boxing, some nice doses of the sweet science to round off the year.
