Last note on the Speaker vote. If 11 members voting Boehner did - TopicsExpress

Last note on the Speaker vote. If 11 members voting Boehner did not vote for him there would have been enough votes to force a negotiation. What could have happened in those successive votes is that more members of the caucus having the courage to stand up to Boehner would cast their vote for someone else. If they had those 36 votes and they remained strong Boehner could have been forced out. Could Boehner get more votes by pleading with the Democrats...maybe. But with the amount of fear that Boehner is said to generate within the caucus and his vindictiveness this could have swung against Boehner. BTW though Gohmert was one member running against Boehner it didnt mean he or anyone else running against Boehner would have ended up as speaker. What would have happened is that a new member would have been agreed upon by the caucus. The biggest fail was the conservatives showing very poor organization. Which is very disappointing. With that said one vote cast by a member of congress doesnt make a failed term. But those that want to excuse a bad vote are part of the problem. The members of congress make good money and receive great benefits at OUR expense. They WORK for US and if they make bad votes THEY NEED to be held ACCOUNTABLE. One thing a representative should NEVER receive from you the voter is a PASS. THEY are responsible for THEIR actions because they represent not only you and me but all the other constituents. This is why it is hard to be an elected official –they can’t please everyone all the time. By giving a member of congress or any elected official a pass the problem you have is the member of congress will continue to do what they want and not listen to their constituents...and we have enough of that in Washington D.C. already. But, that isnt the worst of it. The greatest problem is when you the voter continually give passes and make excuses for your elected officials that vote against what you want to see happen. What will you the voter do when it comes election time? Will you make the needed change or will you re-elect based on your passes and excuses you have given them? Each of us should have our OWN scorecard on each of our elected officials. How many strikes you give your elected officials is an individual thing. If the Tea Party feels that they have to action, thats their business. If constituents want to scream to oust Emmer, thats their business. To criticize any of those actions is wrong just as it is wrong for anyone to give that pass. We each have one vote to make our position know in an election. If you dont like what an elected official does or if you do or if you ended up giving that pass, thats up to you. There is one thing to remember. This isnt some popularity contest. This is a person being elected by their constituents to do a job FOR THEM and not ON THEM. If in the end the representation isn’t doing the job that you the voter wants it’s time for you to look for another candidate.
