Last political cultural post before Lent: I was thinking the other day about the fact that no political and geographical boundary remains set forever, so all this uproar over Ukraine and Crimea seems to forget the power of ethnic and even linguistic ties in the region. I am particularly interested in the Crimeans who wanted Russias help, but now that it has rolled out in this form, are deeply worried. I am also wondering if there is a parallel with the USs history of protecting its interests in say, the Philippines almost a century ago. I guess I am not all that shocked that a smaller countrys sovereignty is not respected in light of a larger countrys military interests. A great read if you are interested in the forces that lie behind, around, over etc. the boundaries of a map.
