Last spring the legislature made some changes to the already changing Bright Futures scholarship program. Complete information regarding Bright Futures can be obtained at FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org/SSFAD/bf/ . One big change is the FAFSA will no longer be required to in order to receive BF. There were other changes put into place in legislative sessions in 2010 and 2011 that impact the 2014 graduating class. Test Scores: Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) will require a 1290 SAT/29 ACT; Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS) will require 1170 SAT/26 ACT---NOTE, THIS IS A HUGE JUMP FROM A 22. Community Svc: FAS requires 100 hours, FMS requires 75 hours, and Florida Gold Seal (GSV) requires 30 hours. Turn in community service logs as soon as possible! EOCs: Currently no EOC requirements are needed for BF qualification for the 2014 graduates. BF Application: In December, Guidance will meet with all seniors to complete this application. It is recommended you do not complete on your own as you may have errors. Current Award Amounts: FAS pays $103 per credit hour at university level FMS pays $77 per credit hour at university level GSV pays $39-48 per credit hour at an approved program Mrs. Burney will be talking with seniors throughout the school year about the BF program.
