Last summer I lost everything I owned in one of the biggest fires - TopicsExpress

Last summer I lost everything I owned in one of the biggest fires in the state of Montana.(The Dalh Fire). I had moved up to the Bull Mts 3mnths prior to finish remodeling the house I had bought. I was sure that this was my final resting stop. The place was beautiful. From my deck you could see plush green meadows where my horse grazed happily in grass up to her belly. Tall pine trees that let beams of sun light through as they gently swayed to a warm breeze. The cats chasing bugs and my dogs waiting at the foot of the stairs for me to join them in our morning walk. I had my dream house in process. A deck that would run the entire length of the house and floor to ceiling windows with French doors to match. No matter where you were in the house you could see the meadows .Plus I couldn’t have asked for a better land owner to rent from. (Lauraine Jacinto, aka Sweets) This place was my piece of heaven my paradise. A place where all my animals and I would be happy. Within a few hours my heaven turned to hell. Seventy nine of us lost our homes and everything in it. A life time of memories and collected items gone in a blazing inferno that raged through at speeds of 65mphs. Four days after the fire we were allowed to return to our homes to view the damage. The sheriff stopped me as I turned onto my lane. He asked if I had been up there yet, he said he was so sorry and to prepare myself , because you have never seen anything like it. He was right. Nothing could have prepared me for this. I got out of my truck and started walking in a zombie like trance. The ground was hot and glowing in places where the roots to the trees still burned. Everything was black and the air was thick with smoke. Twisted and torched metal reached for the sky as if pleading for help. The trees that once sported a cloak of green were reduced to spindles of charred wood. Unrecognizable pieces fused together as they melted into globs. I had nothing left except the clothes I was wearing, my truck, my horse, 3dogs and 3 cats. And no insurance! I dropped to my knees crying uncontrollably. It was dark when I came to. That fire fractured my brain. It completely paralyzed me mentally, physically, emotionally. I erased myself from everybody. I couldn’t move forward nor did I have anything to fall back on. If it were not for the support, understanding, encouragement and help from the people Im about to mention I would not to be here today. It is with the deepest heart felt emotion that I say these words to all involved. THANK YOU for all you have done for me. You have restored my faith in mankind and you have pulled me through one of the darkest hours of my life. You opened your arms and hearts and allowed me to seek refuge and heal. I am forever grateful.
