Last week we were supposed to have an EEG. Asa however had other plans because he wouldnt hold still! We dont know exactly what type of seizure he is having. We have a good guess (the Dr saw a short version at the last appointment) but the Dr. is concerned because they are becoming much longer. Asa use to have seizures for seconds & they now range from seconds to two minutes. His medicines dont seem to be working so we are going to be switching & trying something new. The Neurologist wanted to double check a few medicines before prescribing anything because there are certain that can actually make what we believe to be a type of focal seizure worse. Obviously we dont want that! We are also getting emergency meds to stop the seizures if they hit the 3 minute mark. We are working on getting a new EEG but there are concerns about what happens to findings when you sedate people for EEGs. We all want to see this stop & with the least amount of side effects or issues to Asa. I know you all pray & send positive thoughts for Asa but Im going to ask you to also include his big brother Asher in your thoughts. Asher has been taking this hard & is very upset that his brothers medicines arent working. He is a little more than 3.5 yrs old so it is very hard to explain to him & I wish in a lot of ways he didnt know what was happening but there is no way to hide it. We do our best to explain to him without scaring him. Despite our efforts there is much we dont explain let alone know how to answer for him.
