Last weeks news that a couple who were charged with the possession of 55 protected animals were let off the hook by a magistrate prompted me to write about the true cost of buying protected animals. Read it in todays T&T Guardian. Buying a smuggled macaw to keep as a pet is actually helping fund organized crime. And what about the 60-75% of birds that die while being caught or sneaked across borders? The reality is that these animals are the survivors of a massacre. (Marc)
