Last year in September, 2013 I was on the Brigitte Bardot in transit from the Great Barrier Reef off Australia to Los Angeles by way of New Caledonia, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Tahiti and Hawaii. As we stopped at the various islands my crew and I removed all the plastic trash we could find. On each island I left a glass bottle containing a note saying that we had done so. On May 11th, 2014, a French exploration crew discovered my bottle and my note. They posted the photos and notes on Facebook. Et voilà ce qu’ils ont découvert … EXTRAIT du JOURNAL DE BORD (Pierre Larue à bord de Beijaflor) Dimanche 11 mai Dès laube, le vent dest souffle déjà fort. Changement de programme; nous débarquons tous en ordre dispersé sur lîlot Huon pour jouer les «beachcombers». .Lîlot est un étroit dôme de sable orienté du nord au sud, large dune centaine de mètres et long de 3 km. A lest, le récif tout proche déferle et ramène sur le rivage tout ce qui flotte, un vrai inventaire à la Prévert : bouées de long-liners néo-calédoniens ou asiatiques, gilet de sauvetage, réservoirs de propulseur, nourrice pleine dessence pure, gaffe montée sur bambou, portion de pagaie de pirogue océanienne, seaux, brosses à dents mais aucun raton laveur ! Claire cherche en vain pour son labo, une mue de serpent marin. Les oiseaux sont nombreux à couver leur œuf ou nourrir leur poussin. Beaucoup de nids sont construits avec de petits morceaux de plastique mêlés aux végétaux. Cest Toubib (Jean-Pierre Thomas) qui ramènera la découverte la plus inattendue. Au sommet du dôme il a déterré une bouteille de Perrier, avec un message à lintérieur. Tous les « manuels » de FMC phosphorent pour trouver comment retirer ce message enroulé sans casser la bouteille. Finalement, cest Jean-Pierre Folliard qui, avec une grosse clé à molette met fin à cette attente insupportable. Toubib déroule le message, écrit sur lenvers dune carte marine de Madagascar, avec le blason doré, de la main du célèbre Paul Watson, commandant du navire amiral Brigitte Bardot, (sérieux), après avoir perturbé la saison de chasse des baleiniers japonais, pendant tout lhiver austral de 2013. Nous prendrons contact à notre retour avec lantenne Sea Shepherd de Nouméa.
