Late Waziri, an extraordinary man- Emir The late second republic senate leader, and Waziri of Ilorin, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki, has been described as a foremost community leader, philanthropist, a statesman and amiable leader who had contributed immensely to the development of Ilorin, Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole. The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu Gambari, made the description in a speech to a 3-day Saraki community submit on the life and times of the political icon organised by the Kwara State University, KWASU. The Emir who was represented by the Balogun Fulani of Ilorin, Alhaji Mahmood Durosinlorun Atiku, also described the late political colossus as a man whose simplicity, accessibility and philanthropic disposition endeared him to millions of Nigerians at home and beyond. Describing the late Waziri as a large-hearted and extremely generous extra ordinary man, the Emir said he was also a frontline politician and a political legend who deserved immortalisation as many breeds of politicians today went through the Saraki school of politics. Also speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the Kwara State University, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, described late Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki as an astute politician whose contributions to the democratic process in Nigeria cut across all nooks and crannies. He also described late Saraki as a bridge builder who used his wealth and health to add value to the lives of everyone that came his way. The vice-chancellor said the university could not but hold the programme in honour of the late Waziri in view of his good works. He disclosed that the programme was organised to document the history of the late Waziri of Ilorin which he said would make him to be remembered always. He enjoined the participants to come and share their encounter with the late Waziri at the forum for proper documentation and future references. “The essence of the gathering organised by KWASU, the University for Community Development, is for us to look into late Dr. Olusola Saraki’s history; how he lived his life while on earth. A member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Nimota Ibrahim, described the late Saraki as God-sent and naturally gifted who brought succor to the people in various ways. Hon Ibrahim, who said his philanthropic gestures would forever linger in the minds of Nigerians, added that Saraki’s intervention in various aspects of human endeavour yielded visible results which will make him to be remembered always.
