Lately Ive seen a lot of men my age walking along the Interstate - TopicsExpress

Lately Ive seen a lot of men my age walking along the Interstate with backpacks, sometimes with a woman, sometimes with a faithful old dog...and I just have to wonder. The looks on their faces says a lot; theyre not the normal type we think of when we often wrongly only see an old drunk or drug abuser. People arent just born that way...I believe there has often been a tragedy, great pain, or unbearable sorrow that led them there. No these guys looks as though their world has been jerked from under them, and yet theres a look of determination on their faces...for now. Of late, on my way to work Ive noticed a lot of people appear to to coming up out of storm drain pipes in wooded areas. Its been on my mind that there are people living in the woods. Today I needed a walk and set out not only for some exercise, but to go check the woods not too far from my house. Folks, there are people living in tents and make-shift shelters in the woods. I dont know if they were out doing what they do, or if the ran upon my approach. I looked around the camps...these werent necessarily drunks - there werent any more empty beer cans than you might find at my house. There were camp-fire pits, clothes on the line drying, there were some food items around, inside the tent was a cot, table, hunting knife, a half-smoked cigarette, good work boots, a hard hat, and various other supplies - just to name a few. Ive not decided exactly how I might help yet - Hell, maybe they dont need or want any help. I had an uncle who lived somewhat like this - because thats what he wanted to do; and he was very happy. Im just saying, be aware that there are people who might need your help very close by; like in the woods or storm drains...people who have slipped through the cracks during this ill-fated experiment in socialism over the last five years. This day reminded me of a statement I recently read: Dont be looking down on people, unless youre helping them up. I saw talent in those camps. There are some down-and-out homeless people who might just have something to offer. Ive attached a video of a talented, young, homeless girl in Venice Beach, CA. Take this message and do something with it. youtube/watch?v=4jkkPX15Az8
